Whale Tales 2022 – New Art Trail coming to Auckland

24 January to 18 April 2022

Since 2008, Wild in Art has been bringing public art to cities around the world, partnering with business to raise millions of dollars for charity in the process. In 2022, in association with WWF-New Zealand and Auckland Unlimited, Wild in Art is bringing Whale Tales to Auckland. One Hundred individually designed and beautifully created whale tails will adorn Auckland’s streets, parks and open spaces for ten weeks from 24 January until 18 April 2022. They will provide a fun, free, family-friendly journey of discovery through the wider Auckland area, including the North Shore, for residents and visitors to explore.

This event is expected to attract a large number of residents and visitors to Auckland who will actively engage with the trail, and further exposure to many more over the ten weeks of the trail.

BROWNS BAY WHALE TAIL DESIGN WINNER

JANE MASON

Jane MasonThe Browns Bay Business Association (BBBA) is extremely pleased that Browns Bay will be hosting one of the 100 individually designed and painted whale tails in the town centre.

We invited local artists to submit their designs in the theme of ‘Destination Browns Bay’, and a shortlist of four designs went to public vote.

All four shortlisted designs were extremely well received, however one stood out as the overall winner. We are pleased to announce that you, the public, selected Jane Mason’s creation entitled Where We Belong – Ocean Series. Jane is an international artist and local lass.  She won $500, and will be contracted by WWF-NZ to bring her whale tail design to life as part of the art trail in Summer/Autumn 2022.  We look forward to having her stunning artwork exhibited in Browns Bay during the second half of 2021 in the lead up to the big event.
